Jude- i have a New Year's resolution of sorts to write in this journal more often. At least once a week because you are growing so fast and learning so much.
You had a blast in Florida with Ava and Charly. We spent 2.5 weeks at Nona and Papa's house. Two nights before we left we realized that you were saying "ava". It didn't sound completely like Ava. More like Abba. But- it is one of your first ten words. Now that we have returned from Florida you are also saying Abba around our house and wandering rooms trying to find her.
Charly would cry when she would go down for a nap sometimes. You felt sorry for her and you would walk over to the door to her room and stand by the door and then look back at us and say "dooo dooo". You were very worried about her.
One day we were eating breakfast and you opened the pantry door and started taking all the cans out. Which was fine with Nona. Then- much to our amazement- we turned around and you had made a tower of cans, stacked largest to smallest. We turned around and there you were, sitting by your tower of cans. We were like - "where did he learn that?!" then you reveled in tipping them all over. And papa was impressed, in fact we all were, that you can grab a 12 oz can of beans with one hand and stack it with great agility. You have big hands.
You had a great time with the hose and 2 buckets of water on the back patio. One afternoon this kept you busy for 2 hours, nonstop. You would throw the water around from the hose, completely naked. You also discovered you have a penis on the trip. Funny to watch. You were running around naked so much on the trip and every so often you would look down between your legs and look at your penis and sort of think to yourself- what is THIS?
You also had a great time picking oranges in papa's garden. You like to take one bite, skin and all, and then toss it back in the bucket and go for another. When we peel the skin entirely off one and give it too you, they are so juicy that they really aren't edible. They are more suckable. Papa's oranges are such a treat. Nona and papa love to watch you eat because you eat so much! and you eat anything we put in front of you. It makes you a very easy baby, little Jude. To have a little one that will eat anything you put in front of him.
We also have been giving in to you every night when you wake up at 4 am. Until florida. We used to give you a bottle at 4 am and let you sleep in our bed for the rest of the night- but in florida we decided to retrain you. We partly allowed this to happen at home because your bedroom is so close to ours, and if you cry, we don't get sleep. But in florida we were able to put you in a room so far away that we didn't hear you cry if you got up. Sorry Jude. One day you will understand. So- slept through the night you did. Nona got up with you most mornings and fed you your baba (and you say BABA with such enthusiasm these days!). She liked it because it was one of the rare times you would actually let her hold you.
On new years eve, we went to the beach at 4 pm. Why did I never think of that before? It is less hot, you didn't have to squint in the bright sunlight of midday. From now on- this is going to be my beach time. I love it. The light is so wonderful. I can't remember a time when I have ever felt like going in the water in florida in the winter. but this winter it didn't seem cold to me. i think my temperature has risen since i have been a mother. Anyway- we went in the water together. you love going into the deep water with me holding you. you want to get down and swim for yourself once you are out there. crazy baby!
This was my favorite day of the year- i think. we played soccer on the beach. you played in the surf.
There was an osprey that was huge and majestic that flew over us, and tom pointed it out. He was carrying a big branch in his beak. Tom said "look at that tree he is flying with", and i said "that isn't a tree, it's a wishbone." It was a perfectly shaped wishbone. A good omen, I think. Good luck for the New Year.
